Abstract [Korean]
Abstract Due to the complex anatomical structure of the molar, endodontic-periodontal combined lesions often occur, resulting in furcation involvement and extensive alveolar bone resorption. When endodontic-periodontal combined lesions occur through the apical foramen and the periodontal tissue is destroyed up to the furcation, root canal therapy after a surgical periodontal treatment is performed if necessary. However, if a normal healing process does not occur after conventional treatment, root resection, which removes only the affected root that is the source of infection, may be a good alternative. The purpose of this study is to report a case of the maxillary molar with furcation involvement and extensive alveolar bone resorption due to an endodontic-periodontal combined lesion that had been preserved by root resection.
